Listeria Enrichment Broth is used for the selective enrichment and isolation ofListeriaspp. This medium was developed for the recovery ofListeriamonocytogenesfrom cheeses and pasteurized milk. Peptones and Yeast Extract supply necessary growth nutrients such as amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates, and vitamins. Dextrose is an energy source for the bacteria. Sodium Chloride provides essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Potassium Phosphate, Dibasic acts as a buffering agent. Selectivity forListeriais accomplished by the addition of Cycloheximide, Nalidixic acid and Acriflavine. Subculturing of enrichment broth ontoListeriaselective agar plates is recommended to increase isolation rates.
